Belmont Hill Summer Program

Laura Anne Hughes, a graduate from the Class of 2009, was extremely fortunate to participate in a 6-week summer program on the campus of The Belmont Hill School in Belmont, MA. Thanks to Belmont Hill’s generosity, Laura took Algebra 2 and Photography classes alongside other highly motivated high school students this past summer.

The Belmont Hill 6-week Summer Program offers a wide assortment of courses, including a full range of academically challenging courses as well as arts and sports workshops. Each student has the opportunity to design a customized program based upon personal interests and tastes.

Laura took Algebra 2 so that she would be better prepared for math at the Masters School at Dobbs Ferry where she is a freshman this fall. Math did not always come easily to Laura, but with Mr.Dunkel’s teaching and guidance, she learned to enjoy math and was determined to not let it be a weakness for her. She is doing well in math this year because “Belmont Hill helped me get used to hard quizzes, made me continue to build my math skills and allowed me to retain all the information I acquired while at Beacon.”

Laura also enjoyed the photography course she took because “the teacher was very down to earth” and she had the opportunity to learn the basics of photography. Belmont Hill encouraged Laura to take an elective as well as an academic course, and she found it both enjoyable and worthwhile.

Belmont Hill Summer Program is very well regarded and attended by high school students in the Greater Boston area. Beacon Academy looks forward to a continued working relationship with The Belmont Hill Summer Program for future Beacon students.
