Overview

Beacon Academy is a 14-month school between 8th and 9th grades designed to prepare motivated and promising urban students for success in competitive independent high schools and beyond. It is the only school of its kind in the country.

Exceeding all expectations in rigorous academics, cultural fluency, and social confidence, our kids work harder than they ever have in their young lives. Hailing primarily from Dorchester, Roxbury, Hyde Park and Mattapan, they overcome the multiple challenges of growing up in adversity to change the trajectory of their lives. Our students earn full scholarships to top independent high schools, including Belmont Hill School, Brimmer and May School, Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, Commonwealth School, Concord Academy, Dana Hall School, Milton Academy, Noble and Greenough School and many others. Almost all go to colleges like Bowdoin College, Boston University, Connecticut College, Emmanuel College, George Washington University, Skidmore College, Smith College, Tufts University, University of Massachusetts, and Vassar College, among others. Collectively our graduates have earned $45 million in secondary school scholarship aid and college support.
