Beacon Academy 10-Year Program

Beacon Academy offers a 10-year program that prepares students from historically underresourced and/or underrepresented communities to succeed in competitive high schools, colleges, and careers. Students come to Beacon Academy for a full school year after 8th grade, mastering their academic skills and gaining the confidence to thrive in independent school. We accept between 18 and 24 students each year who receive the tools and resources to apply to private high schools and have the potential to receive full scholarships. Beacon Academy continues to support our alumni for 10+ years following the Academy Year as they enter higher education and begin their careers.

The Beacon Academy Difference

Our students come from all over Boston and the surrounding areas to learn in our spacious building in Roslindale. Here, they receive intensive academic resources to succeed like discussion based classes and access to the latest technology, and they are surrounded by nurturing adults who support them in a variety of ways. These adults include an academic advisor, SSAT tutors, individual mentors, and one-to-one guidance to help them navigate the secondary school application and placement process.

Students are also involved in activities outside of school called co-curriculars. These include activities such as:

  • Sports such as rowing and soccer
  • Trips to cultural attractions like the MFA and the theater
  • Weekend field trips to popular northeast destinations like Martha’s Vineyard and Stowe, Vermont

With these experiences and the support from our faculty and staff, our students are fully prepared to apply and be accepted into prep schools in the New England area.
